Sun Micro Operating Earnings Fall

Network computer maker Sun Microsystems Inc. on Thursday said its operating profit fell in its fourth quarter, as the economic slowdow continued to hit technology spending. Earnings before one-time items dropped to $134 million, o 4 cents per diluted share, from $659.5 million, or 21 cents pe share, a year earlier. Sales dropped to $4 billion in the quarter to end-June from
$5.02 billion a year earlier. Sun cut its fourth quarter sales forecast in May by about
$500 million to a range of $3.8 billion to $4 billion and sai that earnings per share would be 2 cents to 4 cents, down fro 6 cents expected by Wall Street at the time.
